Experience
Adila embarked on her legal career in 2014. As a practicing lawyer, she has cultivated a robust background in corporate advisory work. Adila adeptly navigates complex transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, corporate commercial dealings, and intricacies of the capital market, with a particular focus on unit trust funds and real estate investment trusts (REITs). Expanding her horizons, Adila has also engaged in cross-border transactions for government-linked and public listed entities. Notable transactions that Adila has been involved in include:
- Acquisition of 51% of the shares in a company which is the operator of a supply base in Kelantan for a total consideration of RM55 million by a public listed company.
- Private placement exercise by the largest cable manufacturer in Malaysia and the leading player in South East Asia listed on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities.
- Proposed acquisition of 100% equity of a property management and investment company resulting in the acquisition of a commercial building within Technology Park Malaysia by a government-linked corporation.
- Acquisition of a grade A office tower nestled along Jalan Tun Razak by a real estate investment trust managed by a wholly owned subsidiary of Malaysia’s premier trustee company.
- Injection of assets by a Shariah compliant asset-backed unit trust fund which invests in the beneficial ownership of real estate. The fund offers regular income through sale and leaseback arrangements, in compliance with Shariah principles.
- Leasing of hotels in Saudi Arabia undertaken by a Malaysian government-linked entity.
- Acquisition of the five A-Grade building located at Collins Square, one of the largest commercial precincts under construction in Australia by a Malaysian government-linked entity, which involved the first-ever structured Commodity Murabaha Islamic real estate financing transaction in Australia undertaken via an Australian incorporated trust.
During her tenure with the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC), Adila played an active role in enhancing Malaysia’s securities laws. She contributed to formulating policies to facilitate the online distribution of capital market products and provided insights into guidelines governing various aspects of the capital market landscape.
Adila’s scholarly prowess is evident in her contribution to the Annotated Malaysian Companies Act 2016 (1st Edition), reflecting her dedication to legal scholarship. Her notable achievements have garnered recognition, including being acknowledged as a rising star in capital markets by Legal 500 in 2024.
Beyond her professional achievements, Adila is committed to nurturing the next generation of legal professionals. She has been appointed as a curriculum reviewer for Corporate Law & Practice at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM). Additionally, she actively engages with law students across Malaysian universities, imparting invaluable knowledge and mentorship to nurture the next generation of legal talent.
Education & Qualifications
Adila graduated with Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) (Hons) from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) in 2013. She was admitted to the Malaysian Bar in August 2014 after completed her pupillage at Shahrizat Rashid & Lee in June 2014.
In 2017, Adila pursued her study on a part-time basis and graduated with Master of Laws (Corporate Law) (LL.M) from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) in 2018.
